Sumo! Revise Greenlit!

Hey everyone!  I just received an email from Steam telling me that after the long wait, Sumo! has been Greenlit!

For anyone that's unfamiliar with Greenlight, this notice essentially means that Steam has accepted Sumo! to go on to their service, and it should be publicly available via Steam within a short period of time.

As it is, though, I'm midway through porting Sumo to another version of the Game Maker, so it may or may not be a little while until everything is set.  We'll see.

I thoroughly plan on doing a writeup on my experiences in Greenlight to hopefully help anyone else out that's going to try to get through.  Keep your eyes out!

Black Shell Publishing

Hey everyone! Big and great news! Black Shell Media and I have come to an agreement regard-l-ing Sumo - specifically, they've very kindly agreed to be an official publisher for it!

Black Shell is a company made up of both businessmen and developers; they're all pretty awesome, so I'm really looking forward to working with them.

Wanted to let you all know.

Official Sumo stuff

NOW ON STEAM!
Update: I've finally linked the Steam retail page on this blog post!  I'm keeping the IndieGameStand link at the bottom for right now 'cause I like IndieGameStand, but if you're looking for the Steam version of Sumo, the link's in the description.

Okay, I know this is long overdue, but here's the rundown on Sumo! Revise for the blog followers.

Sumo is not this:

What you're seeing there old Sumo! Revise, which was the alpha-alpha-alpha precursor to this:

Sumo Revise is a 2 - 8 local multiplayer fighting game (that is actually a party game).  When I was a kid, I loved that competitive-yet-not multiplayer that one could find packaged with almost any game in the 64 - GameCube era.  My brothers and I would spend a lot of time playing these kinda' broken, hilariously fun multiplayer experiences.  The first Sumo! was made to relive that experience, and we had so much fun with the 6-hour project that I smoothed it out a bit and made the original Sumo! Revise (the screenshot at the top) so everyone could at least have a bit of fun with it.

Well. . .

I always liked Sumo! Revise a lot, but I could understand that the 37 FPS, the awful visuals, the strange glitches, and the horrible interface would be a huge down for other people.  So, after Rubber Ducky, I started to revamp Sumo! Revise into a new Sumo! Revise:

So what is Sumo! anyway?

Sumo is a party game.  This is meant as a fun, competitive-yet-not time with friends and, if I can say so myself, is a blast to play.  I've spent a lot of time figuring out what rough edges needed to stay and what rough edges needed to go, so I think you'll find a quirky, eccentric-but-loveable sort of experience if you pick this one up.

Officially, Sumo (currently) has:
  • Multitudes of Levels!
  • Game Modes!
  • Game Modifiers!
  • Level Editor!
  • Mode Editor!
  • Mod Editor!
  • Everything-is-customizable!
  • Space Squid!
And the like.  It's hard to put together a marketing list for Sumo! Revise because most of what makes it attractive is really going to come from sitting down and playing it with your friends.

Here's a few places you can find it:

Sumo! Revise Bugs and their Fixes

Hey there!  Sumo Revise is full of bugs, I know, and some of them are left in there purposely.  Some of them, however, are not, and can be really annoying.  Here's a few that I've encountered and some ways to get around them:

1:  Massive drop in FPS

Sometimes, Sumo will start up and the FPS will be in the floor, like half of what it should be.

What's going on here involves gamepads.  On some computers, disconnecting a gamepad after it has previously been connected will cause huge FPS drops.

To fix: Either plug back in the same number of gamepads as you had plugged in before (it will only stay fixed while the gamepads are plugged in) or restart your computer.

2:  Sumo crashing or not working correctly when using the Mode Editor.

Sumo will do some really weird things if you try to start a round when the mode editor is open.  Keeping Sumo on the menu is okay, but as soon as you start trying to play (a custom mode, usually) the game will stop working right or simply crash.

To fix: Close up the Mode Editor before you play!

3:  Sumo mode or mod not working when it should.

This could be two things: either, the Mode Editor is still open and needs to be closed, or you need to check your syntax!

To fix: Depends on what the problem is!

4:  Sumo crashes when a lot of stuff is happening in-game.

If this happens, tell me.

It only happens on some Windows 7 computers and most Windows 8 computers, and it generally relates to sound being played (e.g. when too many sounds are played at once, the game crashes).  I THINK I HAVE ELIMINATED ALL THE SITUATIONS THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN IN but if not, please let me know so I can fix it!

To fix: email me at cr2crstudios@gmail.com

Also, if you've found a problem and/or a fix, please tell me at cr2crstudios@gmail.com so I can tell other people about it.

Sumo Revise on its way!

Hey all!  It's been a very long time since I've posted anything!

As it fares now, Sumo Revise! is pretty much complete.

 Title screen!

This isn't the Sumo Revise! that you can find on this blog as of right now; this is the very much updated, very much better Sumo Revise! that I've been working on for around 9 months now.  To be honest, I'm pretty excited!

This is splorch mode

It's pretty much the same idea as the old Sumo Revise!, just plus plus plus plus.  Better levels, tons of customization, up to 8 players. . . that's what we're going for, anyway!

Egypt, with 8 players

Keep an eye out for an official release in the next few weeks here, and hopefully you'll like what you see!

OFFICIAL RELEASE SPECS:
2 - 8 players local
Different modes to play around in and modifiers to play around with!
Custom modes and modifiers
Custom levels

Sumo! Revise Revise

Well, it's been a bit.

So, anyone remember that game we posted up a while ago?  Sumo! Revise?  Well. . .

Making Sumo! Revise a quality product is our current priority.

There's not a ton to see right now, but more is being added every day and within a couple weeks Sumo! Revise should be in a very playable alpha state.

Wanted to let everyone know what's going on.  To keep updated on our progress, follow @SumoRevise on Twitter.
